One of my objectives as Mod Dev team leader is to give module developers a better experience with Xoops. One way of doing this is to let them know when (and where) their modules are being installed, updated, deinstalled etc.

In my own modules at XBS, I use a simple facility that logs when my modules are installed, updated or deinstalled. The log information is transmitted to my central site and is entered in a log table. This allows me to see where my stuff is being used and helps me tailor support accordingly.

In a nutshell, I'd like to propose that this facility is incorporated into the core module installation routine and that the information is sent to xoops.org and collected centrally on behalf of all module developers.

The advantages to Xoops.org are also clear, in that we shall be able to see what sort of modules are being used on a global basis and this in turn will help developers focus on producing a core system that is of benefit to the majority.

I do have refinements on this idea, but is there any initial enthusiasm for it?
