I am trying to get xterm to display german umlauts correctly. It seems
to work partially, e.g. mutt displays umlauts in the titlebar, but the
internal pager for mutt displays these characters as \223 (and so
on). If I ssh to my linux box it's possible to enter and display
umlauts. Programs like Emacs and XEmacs work perfectly with
umlauts, so does less.
Well, this confuses me a bit. ;) This is what I have tried so far:
setenv LC_ALL de_DE.ISO_8859-1
setenv LANG de_DE.ISO_8859-1
setenv LC_CTYPE iso_8859_1
It is the same if I use a diffrent font or try rxvt.
keycode 35 = ssharp question backslash questiondown
keycode 41 = udiaeresis Udiaeresis
keycode 47 = adiaeresis Adiaeresis
keycode 49 = odiaeresis Odiaeresis
This seems to work, at least xev display the correct umlauts. I am
using the latest release XFree86 4.2 installed with the GUI installer
That is what I have tried so far, but now I don't know what to try
next. So, I am very grateful for any suggestion!
