I recently installed XFree86 on OS X. Using Fink/dselect it was a pretty
painless process. I now have it configured to use Blackbox. But I'm having
a few problems.
One is that xterm insists that the delete key is a backspace (0x08). This
is particularly annoying in emacs when it becomes a Control-H, and triggers
help instead of deleting something. Is there an easy way to get xterms in
XFree on a Mac to know that the delete key is delete?
Next, another emacs-related problem. In an OS X terminal, console emacs
works fine, and through the console prefs the "option / alt" key becomes the
Under XFree, however, meta is the apple key. Is there a way to switch
things around so meta in XFree is bound to the "option / alt" key?
And on a completely unrelated note, are there recommendations for the best
window manager for X on X? I'm using blackbox because it's not too
intrusive. Any other suggestions?
