I've got my window manager configured to pop up a root menu when I press Mod1-r (where Mod1 is supposed to be the Option key).  This no longer works in 1.0a4, although if I configure the wm to use Mod2-r, Cmd-r pops up the menu.  I'm using a US keyboard.  Any idea what is happening?

Try disabling multi-button mouse emulation in the Prefs.

The change is that to get Option to show foreign characters, the left Option key is now ModeSwitch and mapped to Mod3. The right Option key is still mapped to Mod1, but unfortunately, the Apple keyboard driver always sends out left Option, even when you push the right key. Try "xmodmap -pm" to see what I mean. We welcome feedback for what default arrangement makes the most sense.

Here's what I used in my .xinitrc to get the option key functioning as before (in 1.0a3):

      xmodmap -e "keycode  66 = Alt_L"
      xmodmap -e "clear Mod1"
      xmodmap -e "clear Mod2"
      xmodmap -e "clear Mod3"
      xmodmap -e "add Mod3 = Meta_L"
      xmodmap -e "add Mod2 = Meta_L"
      xmodmap -e "add Mod1 = Alt_L"
