Xemacs and png

Just a note that doesn't really apply, but anyway:

Has anyone managed to get Xemacs to compile with png-support under XDarwin, any version up to XFree86 4.1? It finds the png lib but still won't comile towards it - it fails on the test right after, says it can't read the file. I've tried all sorts of png -libs, including libs from Xemacs.org, and all versions of Xemacs for which there are patches to MacOS X. I'm currently using 21.4.3, and it works flawlessly otherwise.

Yes, I've compiled with png support. The first two things to check with any library problems are permissions and ranlib. Try running these commands as root:

      `chmod -R a+rX /usr/local/include`
      `chmod -R a+rX /usr/local/lib`
      `ranlib -c  /usr/local/lib/*`

This assumes png installed into /usr/local . That will give everyone read permission on the header and library files, and runs ranlib on the libraries which does some necessary magic on Mac OS X.

That ranlib thing did it. I saw that trick over on GNU-darwn, but I didn't make the connection. Oh well, thanks for having the patience.
