Thanks for your question. Currently the Explorer does not work using Java 1.5 or higher. I am working on a newer version but progress is very slow at the moment, hope to be able to get some momentum in the coming months but I cannot guarantee anything before the end of the year. Kind regards, Edwin -- http://www.edankert.com/ |

I downloaded Exchanger and ran the batch file. Once the application (Explorer) opens, I attempted to open an XML document and didn't find a way to do this. The file menu only has one sub-menu (exit) and the tool bar icons are disabled except for the three icons to the far right. I consulted the help file and didn't find instructions on how to load a document. Please advise. -MDA |

No, you're right, I totally over-looked what you were saying in your previous email. I don't really know why you get the core-dump but I know that because of some small LAF (Look and Feel) adaptations for the XNGR application, you can not use any other Look and Feel but the default Metal look and feel. This is one of the things I would like to change. > That would be great. Will I hear about it in this mailing list ? You will indeed. Regards, Edwin -- http://www.edankert.com/ |

Thanks for trying XNGR and thanks for reporting this problem. I'm really sorry to say this but there is currently nu way using XNGR with java 5. I hope to have some time in the near future to fix this and make the application more functional. Regards, Edwin -- http://www.edankert.com/ |

To get a not Java 5 Java, I installed "gij" the Bytecode-Interpreter for GNU Java. xngr.sh I altered to #!/bin/sh gij-wrapper-4.1 -Djava.security.policy=policy -jar xngr-browser.jar I got Exception in thread "main" java.awt.AWTError: Cannot load AWT toolkit: gnu.java.awt.peer.gtk.GtkToolkit So I installed "libgcj7-awt" the AWT peer runtime libraries for use with gcj . Now I get Aborted (core dumped) Is there a possibility for me to use XNGR ? |

The xngr xml-browser has been released under the Mozilla Public License, this license allows you to package the application with any third-party applications however changes to any of the sources need to be reported back to the Open Source 'community'. Dom4j has been published using an the even less restrictive BSD style license. Regards, Edwin -- http://www.edankert.com/ |

I was searching for a xml viewer and found this application quite usefull. I have a question about the license. Can I use this in a program that I'm developing for a company? I would integrate it in my java code and put this in binaries. Is this possible with the mpl license? Do I have to use Dom4j? Is this possible with its license? Thank you |

Version 0.3 of the SVG Image Viewer has been released. http://xngr.org/downloads.htm The SVG Image Viewer Service for the Exchanger XML Browser, allows for viewing Scalable Vector Graphics Documents. This version is JavaScript enabled and supports other Apache Batik based functionality like, easy to use zoom, pan and rotate transformations, printing, thumbnail-view and options to export the SVG Image to PNG, TIFF or JPG format. Included are a couple of samples normally distributed with the Apache Batik toolkit. Our favorite is "samples/moonPhases.svg" please, try to zoom-in on the full-moon. For more information: http://xngr.org/ Please send remarks to this mailinglist or you can submit your bugs and feature enhancements on the sourceforge site: http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?group_id=46235&atid=445486 ---------------- Regards, Edwin Cladonia Ltd. http://www.cladonia.com/ |

Version 1.1 of the Exchanger XML-browser has been released. http://xngr.org/downloads.htm This version includes some major Editor enhancements, font selection, bugfixes, and uses the latest Xerces 2 and DOM4J packages. The Editor enhancements include printing and full UTF-8 support. Font selection has been included to be able to change the font for the viewer, explorer and editor. Among the bugs fixed are better end-tag support in the viewer and some syntax highlighting problems in the editor. --------------- For the next release we'll try to change the UI around to be more inline with the Java UI Guidelines. Any ideas on this are very welcome. Hello Justin, Thanks for trying the Exchanger XML Browser. Sorry for not replying earlier, was out of the office last week. > I am familiarizing myself with exchanger, and would like to know if > exchanger can provide me with the following: > > -Pluggable (into Java app) XML document editor No, probably not, the browser has not been designed as a ready to use XML Editor component. > -Support for schema validation, and interface customization via > schema document The Exchanger XML Browser supports schema validation. However I'm not sure about the second part of your question, 'interface customization via schema document'. This is (probably) not supported but feel free to write your own Schema service that would allow for this. Regards, Edwin Cladonia Ltd. http://www.cladonia.com/ |

I found the problem by trying "java -version". I have a Debian system, and it seems that some package dependency resulted in the installation of the GNU Java runtime "gij". This was in the path in front of the Sun Java, so I was running the wrong interpreter. The fix is to either put the Sun Java directory at the beginning of the path, or change /etc/alternatives/java to point to the Sun interpreter. thanks, Steve Gaarder |

Hello Steve, Thanks for the question, I am sorry to say that I really have no idea what the problem could be, could you send me the exception and could you also test what version of java you are running when using the application? [java -version] Edwin |

When I try to run xngr (on a Linux box with j2sdk 1.4.1 installed) I get a ClassNotFound error on javax.swing.plaf.metal.DefaultMetalTheme. That class is there in $JAVA_HOME/jre/lib. I even get the error when I explicity put all the jars in that directory on my CLASSPATH. Any ideas? thanks, Steve Gaarder st...@gn... |
