After installing Embedded Xmms on a newly installed Opie/Familiar iPaq I could start xmms, but nothing is ever displayed. Running it from a ssh session led me to try ldconfig and then setting $QTDIR (to /opt/QtPalmtop/lib/fonts), but still no luck. Hi! Try with QTDIR set to /opt/QtPalmtop . Anyhow xmms-e 0.0005-2 from OZ feeds=20 should work better on ipaq. Here is an email fromn opie list, maybe it helps: A few people had asked me for details on this in private, so... Here's how to install XMMS-e on a fresh Opie iPaq. (Prolly works on OZ t= oo.) 1. Get the XMMS-e, libvorbisidec1, and libmad0 ipkgs from=20 http://www.openzaurus.org/official/testing/feed/. The vorbis and libmad=20 packages from Familiar don't work out of the box; they might work with so= me=20 coaxing and/or a recompile of XMMS, but I didn't try. 2. Install them. 3. Run it. The key here is using the packages (particularly libmad0) from OZ, as the= y=20 provide different things than the Familiar packages of the same name (for= =20 example, libmad0 from OZ includes libid3 functionality.) XMMS includes WAV support. If you want to skip MP3 or Ogg support, don't= get=20 the libmad0 or libvorbisidec1 ipkgs (respectively), and use -force-depend= s on=20 XMMS to install. There are plugins for other formats (Shorten, MOD, SID, and an Mplayer=20 interface for video) in the OZ feed. Happy listening! -Cliff L. Biffle |

Hi! Are you using latest opie btw ? You could download xmms-e, libvorbisidec and libmad (those 2 you have alr= eady) and try installing it with ipkg -force-depends .=20 I have no idea where that dependecy is coming from (I grepped through=20 oz-buildroot and opie, but didn't find it). > ERROR: Cannot satisfy the following dependencies for xmms-e: > qt-embedded-rotation libopie11 > > Earlier this week there was some major (IMHO) restructuring of the Opie > package hierarchy e.g. I see in my pkg lists that qt-embedded-rotation > has now been replaces by libqt2-emb-fonts: > > Package: libqt2-emb-fonts > Installed-Size: 428588 > Architecture: arm > Filename: ./libqt2-emb-fonts_2.3.4-11.1_arm.ipk > Version: 2.3.4-11.1 > Depends: libqt2-emb > Priority: required > Section: opie/system > Maintainer: Opie Team <op...@ha...> > Replaces: qt-embedded-rotation > Description: Qt/Embedded fonts - 0,90,180,270 rotation > > I Cc'ed Oliver Fels, if it is a packaging problem, he might have more > useful input than me. I could not get it to run after installing it off of APKG either. No matter= =20 which feed, or even with a clean installed OZ, would it load up. I also got= =20 no errors when running it in Konsole. It just never came up. So, I downloaded the XMMS packages and all dependencies and installed them.= =20 It worked! It loads up now. MP3s are not recognized though. I use OGGs=20 though so it's not a big deal. Dustin At 09:33 PM 1/30/2003 +0100, you wrote: >Hi Balatoni, > >Thanks for the feedback. If the gui didn't come up, that must have been because of a missing libra= ry -=20 in that case output to stdout and stderr could have shed some light on th= e=20 matter. Output of stdout and stderr could shed some light on the current problem = too (from embeddedkonsole: xmms > /mnt/ram/xmms.stdout 2> /mnt/ram/xmms.stde= rr) , it must be missing some libraries for some reason. But indeed, nobody is using mp3 nowadays anymore, when there is ogg :) > Dustin bye Denes |

It should require opie-base or qpe-base at least. This dependecy comes from an older control file of opie-common of last week where accidentally libopie11 made its way into the files- this should have been fixed for some days now ... iPAQ or Zaurus ? Hi! Yes that dependancy must have come from an obsolete opie package, xmms-e doesn't have that dependancy, only qpe-base. btw it is an Ipaq if I am not mistaken. Oliver Fels wrote: =20 > Who packaged xmms-e to require qt-embedded-rotation and libopie11 ? > It should require opie-base or qpe-base at least. In the absence of a Opie media player I was trying to get xmms to run on my iPaq. The feed at http://www.openzaurus.org/official/unstable/feed/Packages was recommended as a good source for the latest 0.00005-2 version. I guess this is valid idea, right? I mean they are both ARM processors? After an ipkg update I see this in package list file for that feed: Package: xmms-e Version: 0.00005-2 Depends: qpe-base, libmad0, libvorbisidec1 Priority: optional Section: extras Maintainer: Unknown - OZ build Architecture: arm ... FYI, libopie11 is listed as a dependancy for opie-base i.e. Package: opie-base Installed-Size: 588 =20 Architecture: arm =20 Version: 0.9.1-20030123.3 Depends: qt-embedded (>=3D2.3.4), qt-embedded-rotation, opie-common, libqpe1, libopie11, opie-qcop, opie-taskbar, opie-sounds, apmd, opie-pics, timezones ... (Robb wrapped the long line) Both the opie-base and opie-rotation packages are shown as depending on qt-embedded-rotation. I just re-updated and, er, re-failed the ipkg install, so this is up to date info. Hi! First of all if xmms is already runnable, run xmms > /mnt/ram/xmms.stdout 2> xmms.stderr or something equivalent, and send those files here. That dependancy is indeed there in the oz feed - you could try downloading the ipks, and install them from commandline. I am sure it will be worth all the effort :) On 2003. febru=E1r 1. 00:12, Robert Watson wrote: > Oliver Fels wrote: > > Who packaged xmms-e to require qt-embedded-rotation and libopie11 ? > > It should require opie-base or qpe-base at least. > > In the absence of a Opie media player I was trying to get xmms to run > on my iPaq. > > The feed at http://www.openzaurus.org/official/unstable/feed/Packages > was recommended as a good source for the latest 0.00005-2 version. Some of the base packages there are build and linked for the Zaurus and if by accident a core package gets upgraded from that feed yo might kill your installation. Try http://opie.handhelds.org/feed/ipaq/unstable instead. > FYI, libopie11 is listed as a dependancy for opie-base i.e. > Package: opie-base > Installed-Size: 588 > Architecture: arm > Version: 0.9.1-20030123.3 > Depends: qt-embedded (>=2.3.4), qt-embedded-rotation, opie-common, > libqpe1, libopie11, opie-qcop, opie-taskbar, opie-sounds, apmd, > opie-pics, timezones Yes, but this an old and outdated version. In the current feeds, opie-base should have been gone and replaced by libqpe1 and opie-common. > Both the opie-base and opie-rotation packages are shown as depending > on qt-embedded-rotation. I just re-updated and, er, re-failed the ipkg > install, so this is up to date info. Viel Spass. Same here: qt-embedded has been replaced by libqt2-emb and qt-embedded-rotation by libqt2-emb-fonts. I'd recommend to upgrade your OPIE installation from the feed I mentioned above to avoid confusion.
