I think a new release makes a ton of sense.  It'll show up on CPAN
and show that the project is still alive.

Also, may I suggest using the test suite that libxslt uses?  It seems
fairly complete and would be a good benchmark.

Finally, have you given any thought to using XML::SAX?  That way, if
a pure-perl parser is needed, one is available, or if a faster
version is available, it is used.
