Hi, guys. FOr those interested, here there are some useful CVS commands that show how to utilize the version control system set up by group 1(first bullet for team2).I also attached the new file(initial one provided by Abe + CVS commands). 1. Checkout all the files in the current directory(in this case xmlwiki): cvs -d:ext:use...@cv...:/cvsroot/xmlwiki checkout xmlwiki Checkout a branch from repository: cvs -d:ext:use...@cv...:/cvsroot/xmlwiki checkout r rel-2 xmlwiki 2. Commit a files in the repository: cvs -d:ext:use...@cv...:/cvsroot/xmlwiki commit TestWiki.java Merge the change changes made on a branch into your working copy: cvs -d:ext:use...@cv...:/cvsroot/xmlwiki update -j 1.2.2.2 TestWiki.java 3. View differences between a given revision and the local copy for a given file: cvs -d:ext:rd...@cv...:/cvsroot/xmlwiki diff -r 1.7 build.xml 4. Add a new file to the repository: cvs -d:ext:rd...@cv...:/cvsroot/xmlwiki add src/org/xmlwiki/NewStory.java 5. Create a branch based on the current revisions in the working copy: cvs -d:ext:rd...@cv...:/cvsroot/xmlwiki tag b rel-1 |

All, Here are a few items to discuss tonight. Hopefully these will take ~5 minutes apiece. 1. Give project access to Abhi and Leon on sourceforge.net for xmlWiki development. Who and When? Very high priority. 2. Update on Sumantra and Michael (MIA) 3. HW1. -questions and clarifications on what was covered in last Thursday's meeting (does everyone have a log?) - Are documents 1 and 2 ready? - any configuration audit questions? -schedule for turning in HW1 - Are we going to submit one document for our project team or are we going to have each subgroup submit their own work? 4. Other concerns raised: -Roles revisited. Are we going to keep the same roles? Or would we benefit from changing responsibilities? Who is going to play CM role. Who will do Jim's work? -Other concerns by Abe: Are we going to check in compilers, tomcat and other libraries. (If so we need a directory for those files. What is a good name for the directory? We currently have source code and test code all mangled in one directory. Johnson recommends that test code should be in subdirectory of the src directory and be named test. Current subdirectory where wikiXSL.xsl resides is not meaningful. We should move to a new directory, probably xmlWiki-config. |

Ah the irony... Just as I got done saying everything was fine with the Jabber server, @home (now our area is Insight actually) had to pull some tricks. I've had a static IP address up until this point, but they will begin requiring DHCP on Feb 15th. This isn't a death knell for the Jabber, but it could be. Here's the deal... The jabber will stay running as always, and I've written a little script which posts the current IP address to my UIUC web page (http://www.students.uiuc.edu/~jkalafut/ip.html). I actually have the DHCP service running now and it fetched the same IP address as before, so you guys are still fine. While I can't be sure, I'd expect a possible change on or around the 15th, and then it should stay steady for the most part. I've used some DHCP stuff before and it seems to keep the IPs for active connections pretty stable. So, just a heads up... If you get an error about not being able to connect, check the above web page. If they actually end up changing the IPs frequently (which would suck), then you may be hunting for another chat alternative since it will become too much of pain. Later, Jim |

Hi, guys. I agree with Abhi and Arnaldo to split "the old guard"(I, Abe and Arnaldo), one in each team. As I said before, I prefer to work on group no.2(version and changes control) since I spent all my time with CVS as version control. Please let me know who would like to work with me in this HW. Let's plan on meeting on Jabber tonight 8PM CST. Thanks. All, Scheduling a meeting in the morning for that evening often doesn't work. For example, I had to work yesterday, and when I got back, I received the email announcing the proposed meeting after it had already transpired. :) Let's (if all are willing) do this: have an optional meeting on Wednesday (for anyone who can show up, mostly to make sure Jabber still works for everyone), and have an official meeting on Thursday night. Last semester, our meeting time was typically 8PM CST (which is 9PM for you east coast folk and 7PM for me). Anyone up for the optional Wednesday, official Thursday meeting proposal? I am convinced that Abhi's proposal is right - we really need to have a returning group member on each team for HW 1. This is for two reasons: a) for group unity - Radu, Abe & I already know each other. b) for continuity's sake: some of the issues each group needs to tackle will already have been addressed. Radu & Abe, is this OK, considering that you 2 were planning on working together? I can just work on whichever sub-group is left after each of you chooses a team. Hugo, for reference, the HW to which we refer is described at: http://wiki.cs.uiuc.edu/SEcourse/329+Homework+1 Looking forward to working with each of you! --Arnaldo ----- Original Message ----- From: "ZILBER,LEONID (HP-NewJersey,ex1)" <leo...@hp...> To: "'abhishek yuvraj bhatt '" <ay...@st...>; "'Radu Dram '" <rd...@ly...> Cc: "'Arnaldo Cavazos '" <ar...@mi...>; "ZILBER,LEONID (HP-NewJersey,ex1)" <leo...@hp...>; "'naime '" <na...@st...>; "'aybhatt '" <ay...@ui...>; "'naime '" <na...@ui...>; "'rdram '" <rd...@ma...>; <m-h...@ui...>; <ro...@st...> Sent: Monday, January 28, 2002 8:07 PM Subject: RE: hello - cs329 > Hi guys, > > For some reasons the meeting didn't take place. Abe, Not sure what you mean. You really don't need to create new users for the jabber since it is an open forum that anyone can sign on to. If you mean on Sourceforge, I think Hugo needs to delegate admin rights to one of you which will then let you add new accounts. I probably only have time for minimal help with anything, namely because CS333 is moving very quickly and I'm not well prepared for the class as is. Regards, Jim naime <naime@students To: "James J. Hi all Hope you had a good break. I would like to know where are we now. I would also like to know who would like to have admin rights to the projects website on SourceForge? There are some admin stuff that has to be done there and I think it is time one of you take the responsobility. Also, during the break i played around with the code on a separate branch in CVS. I would like to hear your comments on it. regards, Hugo |

Abe, The jabber server has never kept discussion logs. I've always waited until the end of the meeting and then copied the Winjab window to the clipboard (right-click -> copy). That text is in HTML and I save it to a file to be uploaded on Sourceforge. So really anyone who's around for the whole meeting can do the same thing. I'm running Jabber server version 1.4.1., which was the latest when we started. BTW, has it been working? Regards, Jim naime <naime@students To: "James J. Kalafut" .uiuc.edu> <Kal...@no...> cc: 01/28/2002 Subject: RE: [xmlWiki-developers] Jabber 01:16 PM Caterpillar: Confidential Green Retain Until: 02/27/2002 Retention Category: G90 - Information and Reports Jim, Thank you for running hte Jabber server. I have the following logistic concerns: since jabber sometimes misbehaves, the server is the only place we can go for meeting logs. How are we going to access those? Will you have to post those for us? And won't it be a too much trouble, if you have to deal with it? What version of the server are you currently running? Hello everyone, I am a new student at UIC and this is my very first class. I am a firmware engineer for Emerson Electic in Houston, TX. I believe Arnaldo, Abe, and Radu are continuing on the XML wiki project from CS327. I'have taken a look at the project briefly and the pointers you've provided to the material for this project should definitely help. For our homework#1, i suggest we split our team in such a way so that we have a returning person on each group. When should we have our first meeting ? Looking forward to working with all of you.
