Hi Niko, Great news! Glad you got the XMLTester running on XP. Hooray for Java! The peruser LAF is included with the XMLTester. No need to install it separately. The tests are staying at WAIT because you have not started the XSLT_conformance_driver. This process must be started AFTER the main XMLTester process. Note that there is a script to do this in the bin directory. (xslt_conformance_driver.bash starts it in the foreground, while run_xslt_conformance_driver.bash starts it in the background). The Driver is the process that actually executes the test action, usually by communicating with some target system. You can copy the XSLT_ConformanceDriver.java class and make a Driver that knows how to talk to your application. Stu |

Hi again, After making an env.bat and an init_db.bat I have managed to start Xmltester on Windows XP with jdk 1.4.1. I can log in and view the demo test suites and when I run the tests I see the records passing by on the Xindice command window. The status stays at "wait" though. However, I continued reading on the Xmltester main webpage and noticed that Peruser is required to run Xmltester. Is that still valid? I tried installing all the same but I got compilation errors and it's late at night so I'll leave for tomorrow. As I promised Stuart I will compile the steps I've made for running on XP and make them available. Hi Nikiforos, Glad you are giving it a shot! > OK. Now I have them all running and XMLtester has been built OK (I > guess) and I try to "Initialize database contents", but Windows doesn't > recognise .bash-files. Well, I suppose there might be other ways to do > it in Windows. Does anyone have a clue? It will be very easy to create a ".bat" file version of the init_db.bash script. All this script does is: 1) Change directory to "db_import_tree" 2) Execute: xindiceadmin import -c ${DB_URL} -f ${INSTANCE} where DB_URL is xmldb:xindice://YOURHOST:4080/db (replace YOURHOST with the hostname where Xindice is running), and INSTANCE is xmltd_10a01 So, here's what I think you should try: 1) See if you can run xindiceadmin from the command line Just type "xindiceadmin". If this doesn't work, your windows PATH is not set correctly. 2) Now try: xindiceadmin lc -c xmldb:xindice://YOURHOST:4080/db This should show you the empty contents of the /db collection, which is the root of the xindice database. 3) If this worked, then you should be able to execute the import manually like this: xindiceadmin import -c xmldb:xindice://YOURHOST:4080/db -f xmltd_10a01 (assuming you are currently in the db_import_tree directory). You should then be able to use the xindice and xindiceadmin commands to look at the contents of the repository and see that they match the file structure in db_import_tree. > Finally, the whole concept seems promising and we're a couple of testers > and developers investigating if XMLtester is something for us. If you tell me a little bit about what you're trying to do, I can comment on whether I think the XMLTester is ready to handle your requirements. This alpha version is somewhat limited. Be sure to look at the bugs and feature requests in sourceforge! If you would like to create some documents about your XP install experience and post them on sourceforge, that would be very helpful to other windoze users, I think. Stu |

Hi everyone, it's my first post so bare with me. Seeing the requirements for installing XMLtester nearly scared me away but after a while I got carried away. Installing ANT, XMLblaster and Xindice was quite an experience considering this is not my field at all. OK. Now I have them all running and XMLtester has been built OK (I guess) and I try to "Initialize database contents", but Windows doesn't recognise .bash-files. Well, I suppose there might be other ways to do it in Windows. Does anyone have a clue? In order to make friends I promise you to try it on a Linux installation... soon :) Finally, the whole concept seems promising and we're a couple of testers and developers investigating if XMLtester is something for us.
