The greater than ">" character is being replaced by the entity reference ">" in attribute values in outputted XML documents.
The current escaping of the ">" character in attribute values shouldn't cause any technical issues (it will be parsed back to ">" when read), but it does make the document less human readable.

According to the W3C XML specifications it is not necessary to escape this character in attribute values.

    I have uploaded a patch that would prevent the simple outputter from escaping the ">" character in attribute values.

    (should this be moved to the patches tracker ?)
