"Favorites" is good.
Being able to set the number of recently used files to a larger number is good.
Adding a history of files that's visible by date of access is good.
Of course, keeping a really large number of recently accessed files doesn't suit appearance on a menu. Adobe Acrobat has a File | History submenu, with Today, Yesterday, Last 7 days, Last 14 days, Last 30 days, Last 12 months, and Last 24 months, with each of these being a submenu containing the appropriate filenames. (You can disable the farther away dates if you wish in Preferences un the Startup tab.) I don't know if you want to go as far as that, but having a 7- or 10- or 14-day history in addition to the most recent files is definitely something I have found useful.
