I just wrote a detailed and lengthy discourse on the advantages of XML CE being able to edit non-XML texts without setting off validation errors.

For one thing, this means the program could be used for general text creation/editing, thus obviating the need to switch to another editor for simple notemaking.

For another, it ought to facilitate the process of adding markup to a text that is not yet well-formed.

Alas, the grand expression of these sentiments is lost in the ether now, and I won't struggle to re-create it now. :-) But I hope you will consider adding a means of opening, editing and saving plain-text files.

Hi Roger, I agree. The 'Open as large document' mode used to do something rather like this - and if I hadn't rationalised the file-open methods I could have renamed it 'Open as plain text' and be done with it - but now I'm going to have to add it as a separate command. Not a problem though!

Programming like mad on a project for a conference next week. So sorry xmlce hasn't seen a release since January! I have committed quite a few changes to the source repo but can't release until I eliminate a strange bug I've introduced.

Ideally wx2.8.8 will be ready by then too.

    Cheers,
    Gerald
