I've been working with sets of files in two widely separated locations.
Here are the names of two files:
C:\Documents and Settings\sperbergr\My Documents\taxonomy\taxonomies\latest\eclipse\WK Shared Taxonomies\countries-and-subdivisions\regions mergemaps\regions-dss-au.xtmm
C:\Documents and Settings\sperbergr\My Documents\taxonomy\taxonomies\latest\eclipse\WK Shared Taxonomies\countries-and-subdivisions\regions mergemaps\regions-dss-cn.xtmm
When I go to the file menu, the recent files list shows these files but even with the menu as wide as the screen, it doesn't get all the way to the distinguishing part ('...\regions-ds' is as far as it gets).
If there were some way to store favorite folders, or some way to say "just show the path from this folder down," that would help me. As it is, I dread opening a file in "the other folder" (whichever one I'm _not_ working in) because I have to walk up and down a complicated path.
In fact, I often keep one file open in each folder, even if I don't need it, just so I can skip the navigation.
I realize this is as much a problem of the OS and my own file management structure, but anything you can do to make it easier to work in various folders would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Rger

I think the solution to this problem is the Office-style ellipsis format: ...\myfolder\soandso.xml in the menu. I'll double-check if that's available in the framework, but I'm not too hopeful. If this isn't available, the best solution will be to patch the relevant class in the framework (e.g. leave out the start of paths > 40 chars).
Will see what I can do.

I kind of like the idea of dropping the iniital part of a path, if I can specify different folders for which that would apply.
In my own case, most of my "work" work takes place in C:\Documents and Settings\sperbergr\My Documents\taxonomy\ subfolders and most of my personal work in subfolders at the same level as that taxonomy folder.
So I'm usually ignoring the path up to that point.
May not be doable, but it would make things simpler from my perspective.
