What's the best way to update to a new version? From force of habit, I uninstall the older version and install the new, but I lose my preferences that way.
If I install the new version over the old version, can you think of any problems that might crop up? I'm using the Windows version of XCE, as noted before.

There's no need to uninstall the old version unless you want your preferences to be erased. It should always be safe to install over an existing version unless the release notes say otherwise.
Linux users can simply check ~/.xmlcopyeditor, which contains all settings.
