I'm afraid the application is not designed for documents of this size. RAM permitting, you can open fairly large documents (e.g. 128 MB), but for sizes >128MB the editor component (Scintilla) is unsuitable.
'Open Large Document' is designed for documents that take too long to open the normal way, but it does not currently support huge files. (The editor is still Scintilla, albeit with all bells and whistles disabled.)
The error you encountered suggests that your computer's virtual memory was exhausted when the application tried to read the document into memory (this is before the document is parsed, styled, and so on).
I have been looking for a disk-based editor component for some time, but so far I have not been able to find one that is released under a suitable license. If you know of such a component, please let me know and I will use it for the large document mode as soon as possible. In the meantime, I think you'd be best served by a disk-based editor.
I am not aware of any validating XML editors that can handle documents of this size.
