i've been using XMLCE for a good while now, and I upgraded to Ubuntu 8.10 Intrepid in December.

However, sometime in the last few weeks i broke something so that XMLCE does not launch.

I don't know if it's the new kernel that was installed recently or some other application I added.

Are you running 8.10 (I remember your saying you are on Ubuntu)? If you are and you haven't experienced the same problem, what should I look for to find out what has gone wrong?

    Thanks,

    Roger Sperberg

I should add that I _CAN_ run XMLCE by navigating to the /usr/bin folder and double-clicking the application there.

But I'm no longer able to launch from the Applications Menu.

also work for me in ubuntu 8.10

just curious, you upgraded to 8.10 then installed XMLCE, or installed then upgraded,

      hi Roger,

Can you check the link of the Menu item?  See if the menu is pointing to the /usr/bin/

Since I knew that /usr/bin was the location of the binary, I ended up deleting the entry in Main Menu and re-adding it. This was a few days ago and I can't remember now if the link was pointing somewhere else (but if it were, that would have been a red flag now, wouldn't it?).

The link in the Main Menu now works perfectly, so perhaps there was just something corrupted there. Sorry I didn't track this more closely, but things were pretty hectic here at the time.

I'll let you know if I uncover anything pertinent to this anomaly.

      Roger

PS: I upgraded to 8.10 in December. There are daily or so updates to Ubuntu, so I can't say whether the problem sprang from my most recent upgrade of XMLCE or one of those daily updates, which I don't usually monitor closely. Or, if it's file corruption at issue, something entirely unrelated.
