All "phone" applications for mac suffer from a serious problem. When used with a laptop the mic and speakers are proximal. This causes a feedback loop where the other party says something which, naturally, comes out the speakers. This is picked up by the mic which results in their hearing what they said. In a perfect world with delays on the order of R/c (very small) this would be good- this is what is called side tone. With VoIP there is significant delay; thus, the caller says something and hears what they said repeated some milliseconds later. This causes them to get confused and results in collisions (both parties start talking simultaneously). Currently, the only way to fix this is to use a remote mic or headphone. Generally I have to ask the caller to hold on whilst I fumble in my bag for a headphone.
