gnome desktop problems after running xmcm

Though I am uncertain, I think do the way xmcm builds a
window on top of the root window affects the
gnome-panels after xmcm has ended. The gnoem-panels
have the "always on top" attribute. This makes
navigating the desktop very awkward after xmcm. I have
found that "killall gnome-panel" will correctly bring
the panels back to the original state.
However keyboard functionality on the desktop is also
affected. After using xmcm one cannot click a file and
use the "delete" key to send it to the trash.
