I've downloaded a lot of Anime fansubs via torrent and have
now accumulated several .mkv files that have a specific audio
problem. The great majority of the .mkv files I've downloaded
play without any problem.
When played (with Xine on Linux FC4) the audio seems to be all
packed into a low frequency growling/grumbling sound. It's
unintelligible, though it seems to be vaguely related to what
is going on in the video.
Is there some adjustment that can be made to bring out the
I am assuming that torrent transfers guarantee there are no
errors in the downloaded files. At least some of the source
fansubbers are well established so it's likely that they would
rerelease a file if it was unplayable - presumably there is
some way to reliably play these files.
I'm sure others have run into this problem, but I've had no

an appropriate vocabulary for audio/video rendering.
Has anyone here got any suggestions on how to play these files?
