I have noticed that while using xine with XVMC seems to
reduce CPU utilization on my system, the quality of the
video is noticably worse, blocky artifacts, etc. Its
almost as if video is being scale down to a lower
resolution. I am running this on a Laptop with an Nvidia
GeForce 4 440GO card in it. The laptop is a 2.4 Ghz P4
(Dell C840) with a Gig of RAM, gentoo linux, latest
released xine lib/ui. I am seeing this with mpeg2 ts and
mpeg2 ps files.
I am using the latest Nvidia Closed source drivers, and
the issue has been present for several previous releases.=20
The weird thing is that with Mplayer I can play the file
using its XVMC plugin and the video looks great, and I
know its working since my CPU utilization is ony 60% (for
1920x1088 HDTV TS clip). Without xvmc, my machine is
pretty much maxed out on this size video.
Anyone else seen this?
