Hi folks, I read some messages from xine-user last week, it seems to me that a very common problem is that they try to play encrypted dvds with xine. We all know what happens, garbled video etc etc etc. Indeed it's very easy to detect such case just by reading DVD copyright structure. Why not have a nice message for the user just like: "Sorry, Xine doesn't play encrypted DVDs. The legal status of CSS decryption is unclear and we will not provide such code." The api for reading dvd copyright is provided at kernel ioctls and has nothing to do with CSS at all. The user may then choose what to do, if he will look for another player, call the captain or move to another country, that's not our problem. Miguel |
