With the unpatched driver (xorg-x11-drv-ati-6.8.0-1.fc8) "mplayer -vo xv:port=74" spits BadAlloc errors on the terminal and it's video window doesn't appear, however a button appears for the window on the bottom gnome panel. So there's something fishy here.
