Hi everyone I'm a bit stuck and hopefully someone can help, as I've not been able to help myself. I have recently got an Audigy 2 Player sound card and suitable speakers to go with it. Using ALSA 0.9.7 I have it working for normal stereo playback (including using the rear speakers), but I haven't been able to convince Xine that it can play DVDs in 5.1. I realise this may be an ALSA issue, but their documentation's not all that great, and I happen to be subscribed to this list. Using the ALSA driver on kernel 2.4.20-gentoo-r5 on Gentoo Linux I enabled five_lfe_channel in the Xine config. The device for 5.1 (alsa_surround51_device) is set to surround51 as I have no idea what else I might want to set it to. When starting Xine up as xine --verbose=9 -p dvd:// audio-related bits of the output look like this: audio_alsa_out : supported modes are 8bit mono stereo (4-channel not enabled in xine config) (5-channel not enabled in xine config) 5.1-channel (a/52 and DTS pass-through not enabled in xine config) audio_out: thread created ALSA lib pcm.c:1625:(snd_pcm_open_conf) Invalid type for PCM surround51 definition (id: surround51, value: cards.pcm.surround51) audio_alsa_out: snd_pcm_open() failed: Invalid argument audio_alsa_out: >>> check if another program don't already use PCM <<< audio_out: open failed! Nothing else is using any device nodes I can find which look like they're even vaguely associated with the sound card, so I don't think anything else is using PCM. The DVD, by the way, happily plays, just without any sound (as one would expect). Everything works fine if I turn off five_lfe_channel. Similar results are experienced with five_channel, four_channel and a52_passthrough. Anyone have any ideas? Please CC me on replies, as I get daily digests and might miss replies.
