Hi all. I'm trying to learn more about running sims using XFLR5 and I would appreciate any insight you may have.

I'm in the process of modeling an aircraft wing to run simulations and I was wondering if I would have to model the wingbox connection in XFLR5 if I elect to use a high wing set up that is mounted on top of my fuselage or if I would just model the wing itself without the wingbox?

For example, if I model something like the Cessna 172's high mounted wing, would I have to model the middle wingbox connection or would I just model the wings itself?

    Thank you!

    Hi Jay,
the centre section of the wing on high wing aircraft has mostly the same airfoil & chordlength as the rest of the wing and thus obviously contributes to the overall lift of the wing. The loss in lift of the centre section due to the fuselage is probably pretty minor as well, given that the major contributor is the upper side of the wing. Therefor I would certainly model it.

    Cheers,
    Stefan
