there are three things that xfe is mising to make it a real equivalent to windows' explorer:
1) this is something that i can't find in any linux file manager, and i'm totally buffled as to why nobody implements it, namely: add to the drag-and-drop pop-up menu (that appears when dragging files into xfe) the option to "create .desktop shortcut", and also add a "create .desktop shortcut" to the pop-up menu when right-clicking a file inside xfe (i.e. this new menu option should create a "desktop configuration file" shortcut instead of a symlink). The problem with symlinks (vs ".desktop" shortcuts) is that symlinks pass the worng "working directory" (namely they pass the folder where the symlink resides instead of the folder where the target file is located) when starting the target app (e.g. if i create on the desktop a symlink to an executable, the executable simply won't start because it's started with a wrong working director, but if i create a ".desktop" shortcut the program starts just fine when i double-lick the ".desktop" shortcut)
2) xfe allows various file associations, which although they are not as flexible as e.g. nautilus' or thunar's, they are still reasonably okay; however, one can't add custom actions to folders, and this is very useful for having e.g. a right-click option (for folders) with "browse images with gThumb"
3) this last one you must have heard about from others too, but i'm puting it here none-the-less: having bookmarks in the file manager's menu is great, and the lask of this menu is in fact the reason for which i find thunar unusable and i thus tried xfe; however, if you decided to implement this, i think you should make it a priority to have this menu's items editable; i.e. having "clear all bookmarks" as the ony "editing" option for the bookmark list is simply not acceptable
For point #3, you can edit them by opening the .config/xfe/xferc file. Not ideal but it works. Perhaps a button to open this file in an editor might be a nice feature if implementation is difficult but opening the rc file is simple.
Point #2, I looks like there is a script button when you right click on folder(not in first panel). Haven't used the feature yet but looks promising.

Point #3, in case you want to sort the bookmarks, text can be prepared for editing ~/.config/xfe/xferc by
