Currently, the type-specific startup notification disable checkbox (in the file properties dialog) is only enabled for executables. Many of the problems with startup notification, which this disable checkbox is meant to help work around, occur with the programs used for the file type operations, like "open", "view", and "edit". If we could be able to use that checkbox on all file types to prevent startup notification for whatever programs we set as those file operations, that would help resolve alot of problems.

    Hi,
disabling startup notification also works for a program used for opening a file. For example, if you have associated text files with xedit (which does not support startup notification), then navigate with xfe to /usr/bin, select xedit and invoke the Properties menu, then enable 'Disable startup notification for this program'. Now, every time you open a file for edition with xedit, startup notification is disabled.
    Hope this helps,
    RB
