In my opinion, all weapons should have an ammo object (for consistency), but some ammo objects can be hidden and/or have unlimited ammunition. This handles things like laser rifles and psi-amps. Personally I used the laser rifle as a standard weapon in the original, just because I didn't have to worry about ammo. This is part of the original feel, but I think that there should be a tradeoff for sure. Perhaps the laser rifle is much weaker compared to the original game, or something.
