As a guideline, say 3 days. Mainly suggested to save myself
time when testing. All the text views use common code, and
if say I am opening a xena xml file and am searching for a
certain thing to verify a test, the text search would be useful.

Currently, you can view any file type in the xena viewer, but you are only given the option of opening office or html files in an external application as defined by the operating system (OpenOffice.org or your default browser).
If you could open all (normalised) files in their 'default' application, you could use the facilities of that application to do searching or printing* and make it easier to save a copy of the denormalised file. For example, why can't you open a plaintext file in notepad or a graphics file in the default graphics application.
If this was done, the xena user interface would be consistent no matter what type of document. Just change the "open in OpenOffice" button to a "Open in default application" and enable it for all document types.
* there is a series of feature requests regarding printing of denormalised documents.

Chris,
can I please have more details on this? What purpose does it
serve? I'm leaning toward this being (yet another) 2.0 item.

Could be useful, especially if you are only interested in a small (known) section of a large plaintext file.
