Xelem is a compact Java-library to read and write Excel files of type SpreadsheetML. It can produce sophisticated, intricate and complex spreadsheets from within any Java program. And now, since the release of xelem.2.0, it can read SpreadsheetML.
xelem features:

- process spreadsheet data
- inspect spreadsheet structures

- and do all of this in a truly object-oriented environment
The newly added xelem.lex-package provides a concise API for reading spreadsheets, either from a file or an inputsource. It offers a flexible event-based model as well as a simple getWorkbook-method.
