Dear Open Source developer I am doing a research project on "Fun and Software Development" in which I kindly invite you to participate. You will find the online survey under http://fasd.ethz.ch/qsf/. The questionnaire consists of 53 questions and you will need about 15 minutes to complete it. With the FASD project (Fun and Software Development) we want to define the motivational significance of fun when software developers decide to engage in Open Source projects. What is special about our research project is that a similar survey is planned with software developers in commercial firms. This procedure allows the immediate comparison between the involved individuals and the conditions of production of these two development models. Thus we hope to obtain substantial new insights to the phenomenon of Open Source Development. With many thanks for your participation, Benno Luthiger PS: The results of the survey will be published under http://www.isu.unizh.ch/fuehrung/blprojects/FASD/. We have set up the mailing list fa...@we... for this study. Please see http://fasd.ethz.ch/qsf/mailinglist_en.html for registration to this mailing list. _______________________________________________________________________ Benno Luthiger Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich 8092 Zurich Mail: benno.luthiger(at)id.ethz.ch _______________________________________________________________________ |

Import export both work fine, so long as the dates in the input file are valid. i.e. for example on the test he gave us on his website, one date = is something like Juny 1 1999. so, the data gets imported but php = translates that date into dec 31 1969, the earliest unix timestamp available (I = think). So, in short it doesn't do error checking. Hopefully he won't be TRYING = to trip us up though. Export works with a date range and gives the option = of blasting all the data after you export it. I imagine he'll want us to = start with a blank database, so maybe I'll be running the demo while you = explain it, since that way you can just say 'ok now we'll import some data' = without having to know the procedure to do so. -kevin -----Original Message----- From: xdl...@li... I also agree that we should demo only one site, but I think it would be worth it to mention we had parallel development in PHP and Java, even if we don't demo it. -- jaaron <http://jadetower.org> |

Hello again. Pretty much all of the new site is now active. I'm also going to burn a copy of the HTML to disc so that if ANYTHING goes wrong tomorrow, we at least have it on disc for the presentation. I still need to upload the updated requirement specs. That will probably happen in the morning. Anna: Just wondering, do you still have the binder? What all does it currently contain? I'm going to sleep for an hour or two now. Oh, and I've _finally_ updated CVS :) -- jaaron <http://jadetower.org> |

I would prefer not to do the presentation, but I can put a basic plan together, i.e. what features to show off and in which order, etc. The source code is attached, minus database.h which contains one = function db_connect(). I'd rather NOT submit this file for two reasons. It has = two lines of code, one which attempts to make the connection and the other = which either returns the connection pointer or NULL if a connection could not = be made. The other reason is because my password is hard-coded into it, = thus the reason for writing my own db_connect() function in the first place. Recompilation isn't necessary because PHP is a scripting language, but = one point of interest in the design that should probably be documented and = also mention during the presentation is that the small calendar, the task = list, the search box and the main right pane are all independent pieces of the HTML file (you'll see if you check the source). What this gives us is = the ability to add new modules as we need them, such as more than one class, etc. If you need any more info let me know. I hope it isn't a problem that = the code isn't commented very much but if it is I can put some together and = send the files back to you. -kevin -----Original Message----- From: xdl...@li... Hello. I was planning on sending out some emails over the weekend but other crises have kept me tied up. I have most of the website redone and will be putting it up live tonight. I'll have links to all the documentation we have, as well as links to the demo server(s). The revised requirements specs and design documentation will end up online as well. We need to determine who will do the presentation tomorrow, or at least who will do what. I'll be on IRC tonight on irc.freenode.net probably in #gotjava if anyone needs me immediately. You can also call me on my cell phone at 724-516-0610. If you have large attachments you want to email me, please send them to fa...@te... Let me know if there's anything more I can do to help. -- jaaron <http://jadetower.org> |

I'll probably be in the lab by 10 am and until 3 when I have bot lab next door. Depending how much work is left after that I might stay after bot lab. -----Original Message----- From: Nathaniel R Antoline [mailto:nr...@pi...] Sent: Sunday, April 13, 2003 11:41 PM To: ke...@go... Subject: Web Graphics Kevin, here are a bunch of versions of logos, banners, and a Powered By graphic for the sight. Any more ideas and i can do those asap. the pics are labeled with the best aspect ratio dimensions. if they are off too much they will look aliased. so i included a range of sizes for each. all the colors are exactly like those on your sight and should blend in flawlessly. by the way, and meaning behind the background color being triple 187? anyway, e-mail when you see them and what u think and what else is needed. sorry it took so long, the render engine in 3d max was crashing my system and i had to make some changes. if you get this tonight, when will u be in the lab tomorrow, some of the text in your last e-mail was screwed up. lemmy know whats up. nate |

All the tools for a student are complete. This includes all the different views and searching. I'll complete the admin/prof tools tomorrow morning and I'll be in the moye lab if anyone wants to stop by to work on documentation or whatever. Vesna, if you or erich could finish up 6.3 for our bot lab I'd appreciate it. I haven't had a chance to work on it because of this project. -kevin |
