[Xcircuit-dev] stuck in the tutorial

I'm trying to learn xcircuit by going through the turorial, but I'm 
stuck.  The tutorial mentions ctrl-p to look at the parameters of an 
object, but it doesn't work (saying control_p is not bound to a macro).  
>From the menus: Options->Elements->Parameters never gives any 
information either.  What am I missing?

I'm using 3.3.35 on Fedora Core 4.
