XChat Version 2.0.5:

When changing the text event for "Channel Message" from:
"%C7<%O$1%C7>%O$t$2%O"
'<nick> text'
to
" %C7[%O$1%C7]%O$t $2%O"
' [nick] text'
makes the nicknames to be no longer links.
(don't know what $t is for, is in standard config)

So, when <nick> is set, you can right-click the nick
for a menu,
when [nick] is set, the nick no longer gets underlined
on pointing and is no longer right-clickable.
When changing back from [ ] brackets to < > brackets it
works again.

    Addition:

'[nick>' also works for me, seems to be a problem when using
[ ] brackets on both sides of nick ( [nick] )

    Just change it to:

    %C7[%O$1%O%C7]%O$t $2%O

%O can be used as a separator.
