We have a CD writer machine running RH 9 with a Sony CRX160E IDE CD-RW and a NEC DV-5700A IDE CDROM.
I enables ide-scsi emulation for the CD-RW by adding
    hdc-ide-scsi
to the end of the "kernel" line in grub.conf.  Xcdroast works OK.  When I also try enable ide-scsi for the CD-ROM drive, xcdroast can no longer see a CD in the CD-RW drive.  I.e. if line in grub.conf looks like:

    kernel /vmlinuz-2.4.20-18.9smp ro root=LABEL=/ hdb=ide-scsi hdc=ide-scsi

Any idea what might be wrong?
ide-scsi and sg modules are installed.

I always need debug output for everything.

Why should enabling ide-scsi for another drive affect the
      first drive?
