Category: Linux-specific Group: v2.3 Status: Open Resolution: None Priority: 5 Private: No Submitted By: John Williams (johndwilliams) >Assigned to: Jarrod Johnson (jbjohnso) Summary: Node discovery fails with Broadcom Ethernet adapter Initial Comment: The ramdisk images (i.e. nbfs.x86 and nbfs.x86_64) supplied with xCAT 2.3 causes Node Discovery to fail when target node (x336 in this case) has Broadcom Ethernet adapters. The reason is the kernel module for Broadcom adapters (i.e. tg3.ko) has a dependancy for module libphy.ko that is not included in the ramdisk image. Proof: Output from console (with "quiet" flag removed) is show below: Found (tg3) Broadcom Corporationtg3: Unknown symbol phy_ethtool_sset NetXtreme BCM57tg3: Unknown symbol phy_mii_ioctl 21 Gigabit Ethertg3: Unknown symbol phy_connect net PCI Express tg3: Unknown symbol mdiobus_register (rev 11) tg3: Unknown symbol phy_start tg3: Unknown symbol phy_start_aneg tg3: Unknown symbol mdiobus_unregister tg3: Unknown symbol phy_ethtool_gset tg3: Unknown symbol phy_stop tg3: Unknown symbol phy_disconnect insmod: cannot insert '/lib/modules/2.6.18-128.el5/kernel/drivers/net/tg3.ko': Unknown symbol in module (-1): No such file or directory modprobe: failed to load module tg3 ifconfig: SIOCGIFFLAGS: No such device udhcpc: SIOCGIFINDEX failed: No such device Output from /var/log/messages i.e. Node discovery hangs at this point: Oct 26 15:14:57 hpcx05 atftpd[8090]: Serving xcat/nbk.x86 to 192.168.10.253:57093 Oct 26 15:14:58 hpcx05 atftpd[8090]: Serving xcat/nbfs.x86.gz to 192.168.10.253:57094 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=1006945&aid=2891899&group_id=208749 |
