Category: AIX-specific Group: v2.3 Status: Open >Resolution: Fixed Priority: 5 Private: No Submitted By: Bruce (bp-sawyers) Assigned to: Lissa Valletta (lissav) Summary: Correction in MySQL Setup Cookbook Initial Comment: I'm opening this on behalf of Curtis Hoskins: documentation issue: For the XCAT 2.x MySQL setup, On 1.2, for AIX you need to indicate " ln -s /xcat/SQL/mysql-5.1.38-aix5.3-powerpc-64bit /usr/local/mysql " as the step to create /usr/local/mysql I may sound trivial but this caused a significant amount of problems ( additional time ) in creating the database ---------------------------------------------------------------------- >Comment By: Lissa Valletta (lissav) Date: 2009-09-29 12:49 Message: Have updated the xCAT2.SetupMySQL doc. Still need to discuss how much specific LL setup should be put in there. A meeting will be held. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Bruce (bp-sawyers) Date: 2009-09-24 16:46 Message: Lissa, Curtis had more corrections. Please confirm they are taken care of in the doc. Thx. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Bruce (bp-sawyers) Date: 2009-09-24 16:45 Message: More doc corrections from Curtis: First I want to thank both Paula and Lissa for assisting me in finally setting up MySQL. I have only a few comments on the " couple of corrections in the doc" 1. In the section 1.1 Install MySQL To install the packages use the following commands: rpm -i xcat-mysql-5.0-1.aix5.3.ppc.rpm rpm -i perl-DBD-mysql-4.007-1.aix5.3.ppc.rpm This would not work, It Should have said been rpm -Uvh perl-DBD-mysql-4.007-1.aix5.3.ppc.rpm rpm -Uvh xcat-mysql-5.0-1.aix5.3.ppc.rpm You cannot install doing rpm -i Yes I am sure Lissa will update the document. 2. In section 1.2 Configure MySQL mkgrp mysql mkuser mysql groups=mysql should read mkgroup mysql mkuser mysql groups=mysql 3. Still in section 1.2 item 5. For large systems you may also need to increase max_connections to the database in the my.cnf file. The default is 100. These defaults can be seen with the SHOW VARIABLES statement. ( see below). To increase max_connections, add this line to the configuration file: max_connections=300 Other system variables might also need to change: http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.1/en/server-systemvariables. html#sysvar_max_connections In my opinion simply say add max_connections=300 it you have clusters of 1000 nodes or more 4. Still in section 1.2 item 13. Create the xcat admin id with password xcat201 and set permissions. On AIX:/usr/local/mysql/bin/mysql -u root -p On Linux: /usr/bin/mysql -u root -p Enter password: mysql > CREATE USER xcatadmin IDENTIFIED BY 'xcat201'; mysql > GRANT ALL on xcatdb.* TO xcatadmin@mn20 IDENTIFIED BY 'xcat201'; mysql > GRANT ALL on xcatdb.* TO xcatadmin@<servicenode ip(s)> IDENTIFIED BY 'xcat201'; This may be an important item for the document, for LoadLeveler admins that is: mysql > GRANT ALL on xcatdb.* TO xcatadmin@<servicenode ip(s)> IDENTIFIED BY 'xcat201'; The <servicenode> in this scenario should ( for LoadLeveler admins), show the following instructions mysql > GRANT ALL on xcatdb.* TO xcatadmin@<ResourceManager mysql > GRANT ALL on xcatdb.* TO xcatadmin@<Schedd ( there may be more) mysql > GRANT ALL on xcatdb.* TO xcatadmin@<CentralManager ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Lissa Valletta (lissav) Date: 2009-09-22 19:25 Message: This is done automatically by the install of the rpm. I think what was happening here was they were substituting the newer version of MySQL that LoadLeveler was providing. It was being installed and untarred manually. This will not need to be done when we package the new level. In fact there will be no links at all with the new packaging. It is not appropriate to add to the doc. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=1006945&aid=2863865&group_id=208749 |
