Nothing come for free. You have to invest some thinking what your are
trying to do and what really happens. E.g. access rights to the USB device
or some other driver already loaded may interfere.

Compiling with cmake now makes things easier. Fullfilling the requerements
to be able to compile heavily depends on your system. This you must
resolve...

A lot of people use xc3sprog with success.
