Hi David, As you mentioned, after a few reboots, it started working again. Before reading your e-mail, I thought that I fixed it by unplugging and plugging the DVD ribbon cables. But, now, I can see that the problem was the bug you mentioned. And yes, I have a MechAssault softmodded XBOX. And I did the potentiometer adjustment, because I still want to be able to run my XBOX games. And, I'm also interested in backing-up my games. Now, all I need to do is to check on how to backup the games. I know I need to download and compile a new kernel version, I already did it. But, I don't know how to add a new boot entry into my XBOX boot loader (It doesn't have something like grub or lilo). Thanks for your replies. best regards, Pablo S. It might seem odd, but I am 100% certain that fiddling with the dvd drive adjustment pot won't cause this. I'm not clairvoyant though, so if he did something silly during this, and bent a pin on the ide cable, or ripped components off the motherboard for a laugh, I can't forsee that! It won't boot without the dvd drive, it will come up with the error screen saying it's disconnected, and go no further, which proves nothing. What I think happened is this, though further information may prove me wrong: The Xbox is softmodded, probably using the mechinstaller. The mechinstaller has a known (and well documented) problem that causes it to continuously reboot if the time is lost. The clock is maintained by an aerogel capacitor (not a battery), so after a short period unplugged from the mains (e.g. while somebody opens the box and fiddles with the drive) the time is lost. After a number of hours of rebooting, the clock ticks forward far enough to be accepted as a valid time, and the problem disappears.
