The partition table (along with LBA48 patches) are NOT 'illegal'. It works on STANDARD, LEGAL, *unhacked* Xbox BIOS's. I first developed the patches by extracting *my* Original Xbox ROM image from my Xbox. That's a LEGAL BIOS - as long as I don't distribute it. I never created a 'patched' BIOS/distributed it - THAT would be an illegal BIOS (the distibuted one). Patching your *own* BIOS is legal, as far as I know (I am not a lawyer...). I distributed code + batch files that will apply the patches to another BIOS. That distribution is 100% legal. I believe that running those patches on *your* legal BIOS is also legal. Now, I realize that MOST users of LBA48/partition table are using 'illegal' BIOS's. But, the same could probably be said for MANY Xbox-Linux users... - Paulb |
