The display of weather overlay maps in 8-bit mode is not supported. It appears to work fine now in 16 and 24-bit mode, perhaps 32-bit as well.
For instance: USRadar.geo in 8-bit mode.
The Xastir project no longer uses sourceforge for issue tracking and I am closing all open issues (all of which are very old).
