Chinese characters displayed sideways

I am using XAIRA to query the Lancaster Corpus of Mandarin Chinese. The Chinese characters are all displayed sideways. The text runs left-to-right, but each individual character is lying on its side. I have tried to find a way to correct this but cannot. I suspect I have accidentally changed the settings, but I can't remember. How do I make the characters upright?
