Hey guys, I have been using X264 for quite a while to compress fraps videos with virtual dub (I might be switching programs soon) and it has saved me so much space while keeping quality. However I would kind of like a better understanding of the options provided in the settings (most video guides just say change this change that without explaining and it annoys me a little) What I would like to know in regards to this is what does changing the preset/profile/level and what is the different between multipass and singlepass rate control?
Lately I noticed however when I upgraded x264vfw at some point colours started to seem a little more washed out than usual. Reds for example appeared more orange like than red.
Also when I have compressed it the first time, I cant put the compressed video back into something like Sony Vegas and I was wondering if the codec had an option that would let me do that in its settings.

I have provided a link that contains my current settings after the update

And here is an example of the colors being washed out after compression and the original

Any help would be welcome
