[wxperl-users] Trouble with status bar

I do my first steps with wxPerl, and at the moment I do not understand the
following:

If I put the lines 
#    my $status = Wx::StatusBar->new( $self, -1 );
  
#    $status -> SetFieldsCount( 1 );
#    $status -> SetStatusText( "Ich bin ein Statustext!" );

on, I will get a statusbar, but on top of the frame and all the other
objects will not be displayed. Can anyone tell me why?

  There currently is no option for that; but you could just

export WX_CONFIG=/usr/local/bin/wx-config
perl Build.PL
# answer 'no' to "do you want to build wxWidgets"
./Build
./Build install

I think a problem might be convincing ExtUtils::MakeMaker to build
an UB version of Wx.bundle and the other wxPerl libraries.

Has anyone had luck building a universal binary of wxPerl?  (0.26 or 0.57)

Tiger on Intel ships with a UB version of Perl, and I can get a UB build 
of wxWidgets installed in /usr/local without too much trouble.


I'd be quite happy letting Alien::wxWidgets build its own copy of 
wxWidgets, but I'm not sure how to force it to pass args equivalent to 
arguments to configure.  E.g. --enable-unversal_binary.

  This is a problem in the way ActivePerl 817 handles MinGW,
please install ExtUtils::FakeConfig, then

set PERL5OPT=-MConfig_m

and retry.

[wxperl-users] Alien::wxWidgets: Error compiling wxWidgets

I'm trying to install Alien::wxWidgets because I want to use a more recent 
version of wxPerl then the latest ppm version.

After downloading and compiling wxWidgets for a long time the process 
ends with the following error:

Creating library file: ..\..\src\stc\..\..\..\lib\gcc_dll\libwxmsw26_stc.a
Configuration error: could not find libraries for this configuration at 
inc/My/Build/Win32.pm line 73.

Any ideas?

Running:
AS Perl v5.8.8 build 817 on Windows XP
MinGW-3.1.0-1

  I used the patch for wxDemo you sent separately to reproduce the issue.
The problem lies in Wx::PlDataObjectSimple. I patched it, but it caused
a warning under threads; so the problem is gone for now, but might
need a more complex fix.

A problem seems to have crept into wxPerl in the latest builds (2.7) code
that used to work now causes an application exception in my DropTarget when
I call ::GetData. The code that causes problems is:
 
 # create the composite data object
my $DataObject = Wx::DataObjectComposite->new;
$DataObject->Add( Wx::TextDataObject->new( $TextData ) );    # simple scalar
$DataObject->Add( Wx::Perl::DataObject->new( $PerlData ));    # hash ref
$DropSource->SetData( $DataObject );

If I change this to the code below I get no problems.

I wrapped Wx::StaticText::Wrap successfully (with a version check since 
it has been added in wxWidgets 2.6.3) and committed it to cvs.

  Now the overload resolution infrastructure can be used
by external modules. Have a look at wxGLCanvas CVS for how to do it.

  No, and no :-) just the build system is not as smart as it could be.
Just "rm overload" and remake. Or (better) nmake distclean and remake.

  It is ok (I made a purely stylistic change). For the wxWidgets 2.7
version I added a new typemap entry for wxArrayInt, mirroring the one
for wxArrayString; this makes the code cleaner.

Hi,

The constants are now working.

I removed the following:

> > use base qw( Exporter);
> > use vars qw( @EXPORT_OK );
> > @EXPORT_OK = qw( wxTR_VRULE wxTR_SHOW_ROOT_LABEL_ONLY );
> > sub wxTR_VRULE    		 { 0x8000 }
> > sub wxTR_SHOW_ROOT_LABEL_ONLY  { 0x0002 }

I then added these lines:

push @Wx::EXPORT_OK, qw(
	wxTR_VRULE
	wxTR_SHOW_ROOT_LABEL_ONLY
);

And I left this line in my XS file:
> #include "cpp/tl_constants.cpp".

Then in my sample I import them from the Wx namespace and not
Wx::TreListCtrl

I will relase this now as a more workable module.

Fixed.

It turns out a 'nmake realclean' was needed. Not even 'nmake clean' worked.
