Hi, It doesn't work as I expected on Win32. (but I might be expecting the wrong thing). Where in the READLINE routine you do: if( c == '\n' ) break; ++off; I think you need ++off; if( c == '\n' ) break; This, at least, makes it work for me. The way I read the code, currently the '\n' byte never gets returned which I assume is not what is intended. It works fine on my Linux box as it stands. So I suppose that if the byte '\n' is stripped off, the final byte in the stream that gets returned is always 'null' - which on Linux gets treated as end of string somewhere along the line, but on Win32 doesn't. Seemed quite ugly though... I hadn't really given it much more thought, but why would I need a wrapper around the shellexecute? Does it turn out to be difficult to start that up with output redirected to a file? Cheers Ed W |

Hi All, I am programming a wxPerl app for teaching literacy. It needs to show a button for each letter of the alphabet. For English that is 26, but it differs in other alphabets. Even some latin-alphabet languages have special characters and/or count the letters with diacritics separately. e.g. in German, you have 30 letters this way, but French only 26 because the diacrit letters are not counted, AFAIK. Any code suggestions on how to: a) programmatically add a matrix of letters with differing numbers and still get them spaced nicely. b) to use the locale settings to store the number of buttons. I'm using a GUI designer so the buttons just need to be placed on an existing panel, which in turn goes in a notebook widget. Thanks, Marcus |

Does the "small C based installer app" use buffering on its pipes or not? If not, is there a way to write another small C (or PerlApp-based) wrapper that is also marked as needing elevated permissions that will then start the installer app and redirect its output to a temp file that can then be read by the Wx app? If it does buffer its pipes, then things get a _lot_ trickier. In a situation under Win2K where I had to grab the output from an executable that buffered its pipes and that used both STDOUT and STDIN, I ended up having to start a Perl script in a fresh console that then forked the executable within the same console and that used the Win32 APIs to scrape output from the console every 10th of a second and then did comparisons on that to figure out what was changing. News Hits! New R&D Facility Engaged! Chan-On International Inc. Symbol: CAON Close: $0.73 News hits today on CAON and trading continues to warm up. Hitting highs of $0.90 today, we can see this building. Read the release and get on CAON first thing Tuesday. We can see this climbing all week! The default timeout is typically a couple of minutes! Fellow Googler Matt Shulman asked me a question about the Closures for Java specification. " In today's Forums, kirillcool makes a case against some of SwingX's new approaches, in Re: SwingX and third party LAFs. net Events Page using our events submission form. A number of Wonderland video demos and interviews are available in the project's News section. and i'm not deprived. In Provocation: with Google Gears, is it still a web app? but it's still a fork. In Java Today, the latest installment of the Java Mobility Podcast offers A Talk With Java ME Expert C. " This year's JavaOne slogan was "Open Possibilities. Maybe they hoped that work would be done largely in the context of the OpenJDK project, but even if it's not, putting the GPL on OpenJDK means these derivatives must also go GPL. So, given that the author's affection for Apple has seemingly gotten the best of him, is there anything for the Java crowd to learn from this piece? Google says "the company's long-term hope is that Google Gears can help the industry as a whole move toward a single standard for offline capabilities that all developers can use. I was able to generate the client-side stuff but the actuall call failed on the server side. According to Matt Quail, a partner with Cenqua, however, some things about code quality are hard, and even impossible, to automate. How does it affect scalability? "In the current world of YouTube, Flash, and iTunes, video has gone from a niche capability to a checkbox item that all platforms must support. However, I am not happy with the way the search works. However, I am not happy with the way the search works. "We're in an investigation stage right now, so precise timelines will have to wait until we've had more time to discuss the OpenJDK codebase and Sun's timelines. This chapter's about how to build a particle system using point sprites. As he writes in his blog Removing Language Features: As a language grows by the addition of features, it necessarily gets more complex. A friend pointed out a blog about JavaFX Mobile and the Java-based phone to run it: Sun Tries to Jump on iPhone Bandwagon with jPhone. "This talk will begin with a quick overview of basic MDSD concepts. Like having to convince a random "sponsor", and having to wait weeks until a change gets visible in a build. " Cast your vote on the front page, then visit the results page for current tallies and discussion. I was able to generate the client-side stuff but the actuall call failed on the server side. Also Java Today, Builder. I do NetBeans quite successfully. Your narrow, dogmatic viewpoint is unproductive. Like having to convince a random "sponsor", and having to wait weeks until a change gets visible in a build. I compiled my reasoning in this blog. And there's also the problem of how such a radical change could even be kept compatible with existing Java implementations, or if this will necessarily lead to breakage, as discussed yesterday. I want my search engine to provide exactly the word i have searched for. Specifically, Kluyt describes three Java technologies that allow developers to build new kinds of applications. Continuations simplify this and automatically allow you to create a one-to-one conversation between users and a web application. As a Betavine user, you can download and test applications, create your own projects and blogs, and interact with other users. " With increasing number of features to support, growing code bases, and large teams to work with, developers naturally look to automation as a path to ensuring code quality. I'm totally enjoying my Mac for the Rails development I'm working on. there were no apple engineers on the list. net project to use Subversion. |

Oops; should have mentioned that. I'm (unfortunately) developing on Windows XP for work. I have tried the no-lines flag and it doesn't have any effect either. Under Linux (Ubuntu Feisty), my app segfaults right after the splash screen without much info at all and I haven't had time to troubleshoot there. The same app written in C++ works fine on Feisty and XP, full-row-highlight and all. There is no guide, but you can have a look at Wx-DislupManager on CPAN and http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/message.php?msg_id=494371475.20030326053428%40wordit.com You usually just need the XS interface and to add any necessary costants. OTOH once you have a C++ solution the necessary wrappers can be written. Regards Mattia |
