I'm not sure whether this helps you at all, but I've written a simple
plotting module that I use to plot functions. The source is at
http://search.cpan.org/src/CRENZ/Wx-SimplePlotter-0.02/SimplePlotter.pm

There are a few bugs, and I haven't uploaded the fixed version from my
hard disk yet, but it should demonstrate how to do a custom control.

I also have a module based on Wx::ScrolledWindow that draws a
timeline, if you are interested. however, you can probably learn the
same stuff from the demos included with Wx.
