I here you Bob.  I have had the very same dilemma.  I've used  
wxDesigner and while it can get the job done, it doesn't function  
like any other GUI designer I've used, and I have the same crashing  
problems with wxGlade.  Despite the unstable nature of wxGlade, it  
still does a better job, by far, than wxDesigner (and I've even paid  
for wxDesigner).  I just make it a habit to save after every major  
change I make.

I don't think there is any alternative for OSX beyond those two, at  
lease not for Wx.
