Just as there is a label type for the X axis, I would like to add same for Y axis. mainly so I can control the format that numbers display. The existing formatting is unstuitable for currency values.

Well, many requests came about labelling format fo axes. I think the better way is to provide a method to set the format string, so the developer can set it to fit his needs. I'll add it to the next release.

Good idea, but wouldn't the same also apply to the x-axis label type eg. current time formattting?
