I am indeed using Intel.

This patch gives me:
  /usr/bin/ld: can't locate file for: -lstdc++-static

At first I thought that might have been a typo, so I tried changing the
Makefile to say  -lstdc++ -static, but that gave me

/usr/bin/ld: incompatible flag -framework used (must specify "-dynamic"
to be used)
