I like this idea the best. In particular, I would suggest an XML format
since we can pass the entire option set as one XML object and just ignore
whatever options aren't supported by a particular editor. In fact, the XML
tree could have 3 primary nodes: core, grey, and extended. Plus, the can be
saved in an easy-to-read format.
