Hi Jan, sorry for the long delay with this component submission but SF has internal problems which cause our automated systems of wxCode to fail currently... About your component (sorry for the formatting): "windowsservice","2.8,2.9,cvs","system,wrapper","cpp","Windows Service component is a set of classes to write Windows Service type applications using wxWidgets. The classes implement the Windows Service Control Manager (SCM) API as well as a debug mode where the SCM commands can be given via the console. The classes implement handling of the SCM messages via the wxWidgets event handling mechanism.", "windowsservice","2007-06-07","136","beta","notavailable","projectfiles","none","disabled","wxmsw","0","0","Jan Knepper" all info seems ok to me except maybe for the name of the component and the name of the subfolder where it should go... I'd suggest as name something like "wxWinService" (to avoid the double 's' and make it more readable); as folder name I think "winservice" would be good. Please let me know what you think, Francesco PS: Jan, I see your other component, "tablectrl" is containing only 4 files; all of them except the Readme are zero-size... do you have problems setting up SVN? Also it would be nice if you layed out the source in a standard way as done by the other components (with "build", "include", "src" folders, etc). |

Hi, I've just discovered that SF has problems with both remote shell access and with user's cron jobs. From SF Site Status: ( 2007-06-13 13:43:38 - Project Shell Service ) As of 2007-06-12 the cron service provided under the project shell service has been disabled. Ongoing systems problems have forced us to pull it offline until a suitable replacement can be developed. Accordingly, no estimate for when we'll restore service is being provided. this means that new components proposals won't be posted here. All peoples which want to propose a new component must thus post here a note with the name of the proposed component, AFTER filling out the form for the new component. Francesco PS: to other wxCode admins, the proposed components are still viewable at https://phpmyadmin-w.sourceforge.net/ searching for components with approved=0 |

Hi all, I've seen many bug reports up to now about users which misunderstand that makefile.gcc must be used with MinGW only and not on Unix environments (where configure script must be used instead). In order to reduce the number of peoples which gets misleaded by this I propose to change wxCode bakefiles in order to make "mingw" output (by default) a makefile called "makefile.mingw" instead of "makefile.gcc". I don't think a file extension of > 3 chars is a problem nowadays :) Do you agree with such change? From your (maintainer) side, you'd only need to regen after updating wxCode repo and then add makefile.mingw removing makefile.gcc. Francesco |

Microsoft Windows has another protocol UPnP with similar usage, but these help only on windows networks. MS wont be able to replace Avahi (and Zeroconf) unless they provide an open method which is better than Zeroconf and in that case I'm sure someone will make a linux lib for it. As far as Bonjour, I used O'Reilly's book for documentation: > http://www.oreilly.com/catalog/bonjour/toc.html There is a pdf of chapter > seven as the sample chapter, which covers the C API, which was all I needed > to implement what I did. > Thanks for the book suggestion. Luckily a friend has it, so I'll get it from her today. Any suggestions for some documentation on Avahi? Thanks Ishan |

Hello. I've been doing a bit of research, and it appears that Vista supports a service discovery method called WS-Discovery. I found documentation for it here: http://specs.xmlsoap.org/ws/2005/04/ discovery/ws-discovery.pdf I know next to nothing about it, but my impression so far is that it's MS's attempt to replace Bonjour. As far as Bonjour, I used O'Reilly's book for documentation: http:// www.oreilly.com/catalog/bonjour/toc.html There is a pdf of chapter seven as the sample chapter, which covers the C API, which was all I needed to implement what I did. ------------------------------- Hank Schultz Cedrus Corporation http://www.cedrus.com/ On May 23, 2007, at 3:42 AM, Ishan Arora wrote: > Hi, > > Howl says he is busy with come commercial product but he'll be > around if we need any help. Hello. I am OK to develop a general wrapper on top of Avahi and Bonjour (perhaps Howl too ?). I think it is a better idea than the Bonjour compatibility layer of Avahi is not efficient as native one API. A wrapper can probably implement all common (and usefull) features and anyone who want to use very specific feature can use specific wxDNSSD or wxAvahi lib. Regards. Ishan, Bonjour is also available for Linux, but I unfortunately do not have a Linux machine, so my code has not been tested. The code appears to be working as expected on OS X and Windows, however. wxDNSSD is missing documentation and a friendly build method; I've just been building it directly into my executable for the time being. A wrapper would definitely be a good thing, but it shouldn't just be a wrapper on top of Avahi and Bonjour. If there are any other discovery methods, they should also be taken into consideration (*cough* *cough* people near me *cough* *cough*). I believe IPv6 includes service discovery as well, so a wrapper API should take all of this into consideration. If it doesn't, then it will simply be replaced as more back-ends are needed. I have another project I'm working on at the moment. It may or may not wind up being open-sourced in the long run, but it's likely to use wxDNSSD. (That's code for "I'm really busy, so I may not be of much use, but I'm always around.") Hank Schultz ps. I've CC'ed this to the wxCode mailing list so that anyone interested can offer input. ------------------------------- Hank Schultz Cedrus Corporation http://www.cedrus.com/ On May 19, 2007, at 12:50 PM, Ishan Arora wrote: > Hi, > > First of all I want to tell you that wxAvahi and wxDNSSD are great > contribution to zeroconf networking with wxWidgets, however Avahi > is only for Linux and OS X and not for windows. Hi, John Labenski ha scritto: >> When I run bakefile 0.2.2 in MSW it gets stuck trying to generate the >> gnu makefiles and after 10 mins I pressed Ctrl-C, here's the output. very strange. I can reproduce it here (ubuntu) using bakefile SVN however. It looks bakefile ends up in an endless loop. Unfortunately I cannot debug it right now but maybe you could look at other components with more than 1 sample to see why it works there and not in yours... I'll have a deeper look this weekend...
